Organization: Japan Sport Council London Office/Loughborough Office
Implementation period: November in the first year (4 weeks)
I conducted my internship at the Japan Sport Council London office and Loughborough office.
My responsibility at the Loughborough office was conducting research on Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) initiatives of local authorities in the United Kingdom. In the London office, I was involved in assisting and reporting on the World Rugby Conference and Exhibition, and also visited the Olympic Park and reported the activity.
Since the host organization is the Japanese institution in abroad, there was a clear goal to utilize what we research and report to the public good of Japanese society. As Japan will hosts the Rugby World Cup in 2019 and the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, in particular, it was very helpful to learn about legacy and development of these sporting events in the UK, which hosted both events in the past. Moreover, the staff of JSC supervised me in report writing, email communications and liaising with visitors. They taught me not only operations related to sport, but also basic competencies to work in the field, and I strongly believe that this experience helps me to develop my career in the future.
I truly appreciate that we can obtain practical experience which we cannot learn at the university through the internship program with JSC.
